Fred Keeley to speak in Salinas

Former Assemblymember for the 27th Assembly district and current Treasurer of Santa Cruz County Fred Keeley will speak on local sustainability issues. Invited by the 1000 Friends of Carr Lake and the Watershed Institute of CSUMB, Mr. Keeley will speak on June 19 at 7 p.m. at the Sherwood Hall Community Center at 940 N. Main Street in Salinas.

Mr. Keeley is the author of the nation's largest park and environmental protection bonds (Proposition 12 in 2000, and Proposition 40 in 2002) that provided $4.7 billion in capital funding for state and local parks. He has been a long-time supporter of sustainability, environmental justice and healthy communities.

“The Carr Lake Project is a prime example of the type of multi-benefit projects that we need to put our energies into. The Carr Lake Regional Park can address a host of issues from flood control and water quality to open space and recreational needs. Parks, such as Carr Lake have been shown to have a positive effect on problems from childhood obesity to violence and crime,” Keeley said.

Please come and bring your friends for, what promises to be a valuable and informative evening.
