Two Important Conferences Coming Up

LandWatch members and interested members of the public should mark their calendars now for a couple of extremely important and interesting events:

PCL is the stateís oldest statewide environmental advocacy organization. This all day workshop will provide detailed instructions on how to use CEQA to achieve better land use planning decisions. Attorney Bill Yeates, an experienced and successful CEQA litigator, will lead the workshop.

The CEQA workshop will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and lunch is included. All participants will also receive a copy of PCLís excellent ìCitizens Guide to CEQA.î Cost of the workshop will be $25. Call LandWatch for more information and to register for the workshop.

#2
On Friday, September 20, 2002, LandWatch and the Latino Issues Forum will co-sponsor an important conference in Salinas, addressing The Latino Community and Land Use Policy. Latino Issues Forum (LIF) is a non-profit public policy and advocacy institute dedicated to advancing new and innovative public policy solutions for a better, more equitable and prosperous society. Established in 1987, LIF addresses public policy issues from the perspective of how they will affect the social and economic future of the Latino community. Latino Issues Forum will be bringing experienced community leaders from all over California, to discuss how lessons learned elsewhere may benefit the Latino Community in Monterey County. A special focus of the conference will be affordable housing.

The conference will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Santa Lucia Room at the Salinas Community Center, 940 North Main Street, in Salinas. Contact Lupe Garcia at LandWatch for more information. Lupe can be reached at 831-759-2824 x13.
