now for a couple of extremely important and interesting events:

On Saturday, September 14, 2002, LandWatch and the Planning
and Conservation League will co-sponsor a workshop on the California
Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). PCL is the stateís oldest
statewide environmental advocacy organization. This all day workshop
will provide detailed instructions on how to use CEQA to achieve
better land use planning decisions. Attorney Bill Yeates, an experienced
and successful CEQA litigator, will lead the workshop.
The
CEQA workshop will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and lunch
is included. All participants will also receive a copy of PCLís
excellent ìCitizens Guide to CEQA.î Cost of the workshop
will be $25. Call LandWatch for more information and to register

On Friday, September 20, 2002, LandWatch and the Latino
Issues Forum will co-sponsor an important conference in Salinas,
addressing The Latino Community and Land Use Policy. Latino Issues
Forum (LIF) is a non-profit public policy and advocacy institute
dedicated to advancing new and innovative public policy solutions
for a better, more equitable and prosperous society. Established
in 1987, LIF addresses public policy issues from the perspective
of how they will affect the social and economic future of the Latino
community. Latino Issues Forum will be bringing experienced community
leaders from all over California, to discuss how lessons learned
elsewhere may benefit the Latino Community in Monterey County. A
special focus of the conference will be affordable housing.
The
conference will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Santa
Lucia Room at the Salinas Community Center, 940 North Main Street,
