The KUSP Land Use Report #17: Keeping In Touch With Land Use Decisions

The following Land Use Report is presented by Gary Patton, Executive Director of LandWatch Monterey County. The opinions expressed by Mr. Patton are not necessarily those of KUSP Radio, nor of any of our sponsors.

This weekly report helps keep KUSP listeners informed about some of the most important and interesting developments in land use policy, throughout the entire central coast region. But more is happening than can be reported here. If you really want to know what’s going on, and you’d like to follow land use decision-making in your community, information may be available to you through the worldwide web.

Agendas for the Planning Commission, and for the City Council, are available on the web for the cities of Santa Cruz, Capitola, Monterey, Carmel, Salinas, Gonzales, King City, and San Luis Obispo. Comparable information is available for the counties of Santa Cruz, Monterey, and San Luis Obispo.

What’s even better is that some local governments will enter an email subscription for you, and regularly send you the information you need to keep current on land use decision-making. The cities of Monterey, Carmel, and King City will all send you agendas by email, if you sign up. The County of Monterey has the best system. You can get the agendas of all of their land use decision-making bodies emailed to you in advance, and quite often can get staff reports and similar materials.

Land use decision-making really is important. So find out what’s going on in your community, by checking the web!

For KUSP, this is Gary Patton.
