Welcome Amy White, New LandWatch Associate Director

Dear LandWatch Members:

LandWatch is pleased to introduce our new Associate Director, Amy L. White. She is a long-time community activist and LandWatch volunteer who passionately supports the work of LandWatch. She began volunteering for LandWatch under the supervision of Elizabeth Panetta in 2003, where she focused on promoting affordable housing and continued her land use activism, especially in Marina. She is a former teacher and a non-profit manager. We are very exited to have Amy join our team, where her community outreach and public policy skills will help achieve the LandWatch mission. You can read Amy's full bio on the LandWatch website.

Amy has some very large shoes to fill, taking the place of Paula Lotz, who recently stepped down from LandWatch to care for her parents, who live with her. Fortunately, Paula will continue to work for LandWatch as a part-time consultant. Paula’s technical expertise, her political experience, and her passionate commitment to LandWatch make her an invaluable asset.

Amy White began her career in education where she gained valuable communication and community outreach skills while developing her commitment to future generations. During her five years teaching in the Monterey Bay area, Amy was recruited by Elizabeth Panetta to volunteer at LandWatch. With Elizabeth, she focused on fostering the building of affordable housing in Monterey County and gained valuable insights about local land use issues and LandWatch’s mission. Most recently, Amy worked on the successful campaign to elect Jane Parker where she expanded her knowledge about Monterey County and its voters’ concerns. She is currently pursuing her Master’s Degree in Public Policy from the Leon Panetta Institute, learning the most innovative and progressive policy ideas that will only benefit her at LandWatch. Finally, she actively volunteers with the Surfrider Foundation and continues her Spanish language studies.

LandWatch's mission is to protect Monterey County's future by addressing climate change, community health, and social inequities in housing and infrastructure. By encouraging greater public participation in planning, we connect people to government, address human needs and inspire conservation of natural resources.
