Around the County Series Successful

LandWatch hosted a three part Around the County series of community workshops. These workshops focused on the Fort Ord site and its many facets. All of the workshops were well attend with over 200 participants. This year, LandWatch incorporated photographic art in the series. Each event showcased a different group of local photographers featuring their Fort Ord-focused work.

The first workshop in April focused on FORA Background and Current Plans with speakers: Tom Moore (Ventana Chapter of the Sierra Club), Bruce Delgado (Bureau of Land Management Botanist), and Kristi Markey (Chief of Staff to Supervisor Jane Parker).

The second workshop in May focused on Fort Ord Clean Up Efforts with speakers: Bill Collins (Wildlife Biologist, U.S. Army Fort Ord Base Realignment and Closure Cleanup Office), Stan Cook (Program Manager, FORA Environmental Services Cooperative Agreement) and Dan Amadeo (Marina in Motion).

The third workshop in June focused on “What’s Next for Fort Ord,” and speakers included: Fort Ord Rec Users (forU) , Keep Fort Ord Wild, Fort Friends, Sustainable Seaside and Marina, LandWatch Sierra Club, and Friends of the Fort Ord Warhorse.

LandWatch is pleased to educate, inform and empower members, residents and stakeholders about issues occurring at the Fort Ord site and how they can participate in decisions related to the site.
