LandWatch and its board and consultants are monitoring climate action plans that Monterey County, Carmel, and Salinas are preparing. The biggest issue identified so far is that the greenhouse gas inventories previously prepared by the Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments for local jurisdictions and the preliminary inventory just circulated by the County underestimate transportation emissions, which could lead to more climate-damaging sprawl. Climate policies will remain of critical import and has moved into a priority position for our work.
