LandWatch proudly recounts its organizational impacts through this page.
LandWatch Monterey County’s 2025 Impact Report covers a year of advocacy for smart, equitable, climate-resilient growth across three priorities. On climate and land use, it sued Seaside over a flawed General Plan review that threatens Fort Ord habitat and fought Gonzales’ Vista Lucia sprawl, 3,498 units on 771 acres of farmland. On housing, it won changes to the Housing Element and helped secure a 6–2 Coastal Commission vote for a short-term rental ordinance that protects workforce housing. On water, it pushed to lift the Peninsula’s hook-up moratorium, opposed Cal Am’s costly desalination plant, and urged a feasible Salinas Valley groundwater plan. In 2026, LandWatch will continue the Seaside lawsuit, protect Fort Ord open space, steer growth toward infill, and pursue an affordable water supply for the Peninsula, all powered by its members, donors and volunteers.
