Planning issues in Monterey County are affected by what agencies decided to do outside of the County and local cities. This section of the LandWatch website highlights important planning issues related to regional agencies.
The following agencies can be accessed on this summary page or on the right navigation menu:
The Association of Monterey Bay Area Governments (AMBAG) was formed in 1968 to offer solutions and a collaborative approach to regional problems.
California State University, Monterey Bay (CSUMB) has roughly 7,500 students enrolled and was founded in 1994 on lands formerly included in the Fort Ord. Decisions made by the University have the potential to impact nearby communities, natural lands, and may exacerbate climate impacts.
The Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO) plays a vital role in land use policy making decisions.
The Monterey-Salinas Transit provides bus service in the greater Monterey area and therefore its decisions related to alternative modes of transportation are critical to combatting climate impacts.
The Transportation Association of Monterey County (TAMC) is Monterey County’s regional transportation planning agency.
