Monterey County

The unique beauty and productivity of South Monterey County is under significant pressure. Rapid growth in San Luis Obispo County is creating a demand for large lot residential development not only there, but in Monterey County, too. The conversion of South County ranches and grazing lands to residential development will undermine the long-term viability of ranching and grazing in Monterey County. Such development will place the beauty and splendor of its valleys and mountain ranges at risk. LandWatch is urging the Board of Supervisors to develop and implement a strong, positive approach to South Monterey County planning issues. To do nothing is to make a choice for more ranchette and residential sprawl, in one of the most isolated and beautiful parts of beautiful Monterey County.
